Is God right to be self-centered?

Let's continue the discussion that we ended with last week. It's a little off-topic, but not by far. And I think it's probably a very important thing to think about, if we want to define what real church should be.

The question that was brought up right near the end of the time Sunday was this, "Is it OK for God to be self-centered?"

My initial response was "Yes." My reasoning was that since God is the greatest being in the universe, it is to everyone's best interest to be centered on Him. If I think you should be Dave Eckstrom-centered, I am steering you WAY in the wrong direction for you. You would be better served being you-centered than me-centered. But I'm arguing that we are all better served by being God-centered.

Do you agree with that? Do you really think the best thing for you is to center your life on someone else? If so, why? If not, why not? Let's have an honest discussion about this--it's OK to disagree with each other. It's not OK to be dishonest or uncivil with each other. Those are the only ground rules here.
